Summer reading: Kids

It’s not too late to get in some lazy summer reading days . Stay with Search Antigua this week as we guide you through some local reading, listing some outstanding Antiguan books. Starting today with local books for the kids, shortly followed by books for teens and adults.

Smaller kids will enjoy Cadriel & Jadiel: A Day At the Beach by Calesia Thibou. Enjoy beautiful illustrations and the charming story of two children’s day at the beach, set in Antigua.

Older children will enjoy Pink Teacups & Blue Dresses by Floree Williams. A compilation of biographical short stories based on the author’s childhood from the early years to secondary school.

This same category of children can also check out Emerald Isle of Adventure by Rachel Collis. This adventure novel chronicles the story of two American children Michael and Tammy who reluctantly relocated with their mother to Montserrat for the summer.

It is always good to add local books to your children’s book list. Exposing them to books written about the Caribbean and especially their own island Antigua instills a certain civil pride. It also gives them aspirations to write their own stories.
