Summer Reading: Adult Fiction

Send the kids outside to play, turn off the tv, send the phone straight to voicemail and curl up with a book. Not just any book, this summer challenge yourself to reading Antiguan!

Here are a few suggestions of local must reads in the fiction department.

Unburnable by Marie- Elena John is a bit of a suspense novel with many twists, turns and secrets. Learn the story of Lillian, a Dominican living in the US who is determined to return to her homeland to discover her dark past. A past that includes her mother the insane, village prostitute and her grandmother the village healer who was convicted of multiple murders.

Joanne Hillhouse’s Dancing Nude in the Moonlight is a nice, light, summer read for the romantics. Selena the Hispanic immigrant, is left to fend for herself in a foreign land while raising a baby and two younger sisters. Her world, already a struggle, is put through extra ups and downs when it is challenged by the love of a man.

Unexpected by Tameka Jarvis George will have you curled up on the couch for a while. This novel chronicles the newly single Xion Taylor who has just left a long abusive relationship. Watch her emancipation into finding herself and navigating love through the pages of this book.
