Motion Picture Association
The recently formed non-profit company, The Antigua and Barbuda Motion Picture Association, is chaired by film-maker Howard Allen and has Dr. Alvin Edwards as its vice-chairman. The organization of independent film-makers and producers joins other regional counterparts to ensure the development of the film industry in the OECS.
Howard Allen, who is currently the interim co-chair of the regional body, the Caribbean Audio/Visual Network (CAN), which represents 20 countries, concludes film-making in the Antigua and Barbuda and the rest of the region shows a lot of potential which won’t be realized unless film-makers come together.
As part of its mandate the Motion Picture Association will access training for its members, promote its work at regional and international film festivals, seek local, regional and international sources of funding, while working along with the Caribbean Audio/Visual Network in establishing a distribution network.
The association also plans to lobby the government for the establishment of a film commission, which can be a source of revenue for Antigua and Barbuda in the development of a film industry.
