Antigua Carnival

Antigua Carnival 2011  is a ten-day festival(23rd July 2011-2nd August 2011) beauty pageants, talent shows, and especially good music.

The festivities, which celebrates emancipation, are exciting and extensive, ranging from the Party Monarch and Calypso Monarch competitions of Calypsonians, the Panorama steel band competition, and the spectacular Parade of Bands to the Miss Antigua Pageant and the Caribbean Queen’s Competition.

In addition to these major events, the nonstop revelry of this carnival includes innumerable smaller festivities, including local concerts, food fairs, parades, and cultural shows.

This year’s Antigua Carnival starts from July 23rd  2010 and ends on August 2nd , 2010.

The Schedule of Events, Antigua Carnival 2010!:

July 24th: Opening of Carnival

The Scotia Bank Opening Parade 2010 kick-starts Carnival from 2 pm, starting from the House of Culture and ending at Carnival City (Antigua Recreation Grounds). Sign up with a mas’ troupe to play Tee Shirt Mas’ or just head to town for the lime and enjoy the display of steel pan, calypso, soca, and iron band or get a glimpse of the contestants for the Queen show, Party Monarch and Calypso Monarch competitions.

July 25th: Junior Carnival

It’s the Children’s Carnival parade. Bring your kids and come support the future stars of the festival. The parade moves off at 1pm from the House of Culture and heads to Carnival City (ARG) where the Prince and Princess of Carnival will be crowned.

July 26th: Queen of Carnival

The Queen of Carnival show is one of the most prestigious pageant titles in Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua and Barbuda’s young and beautiful talent will be displayed and celebrated throughout the evening. The Queen of Carnival will take on the responsibility to be a role model for many Queen of Carnivals to come!  The show starts at 8.00pm in Carnival City.

July 27th:THE SOURCE Teen Splash

Antigua Carnival’s Teen Splash is a highly anticipated show on this year’s  Carnival Events.  The island’s  Teens will contest against each other in various ways and always promises to be an exciting and educational show.

July 28th: Caribbean Melting Pot

The Antigua Recreation Grounds come alive with the long anticipated Caribbean Melting Pot featuring a great vibe, excellent music and lots of fun. Starting at 8.00pm until….

July 29th:Panorama and Junior Party Monarch

The Steel Pan is one of the most celebrated  Music forms of Antigua and Barbuda. These Pan players come in large groups and perform at Antigua’s Official Steel Pan competition, Panorama. he show starts at 8.00pm.

July 30th: Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show

The Jaycees Caribbean Queen Show continues to make a meaningful contribution to our annual summer festival, Antigua Carnival. This show brings together an array of beauty, talent, intelligence and culture through the participation of the contestants, and has also been used as a means of fostering Caribbean Integration.

The show sees competitors from across the Caribbean region compete for the Jaycees crown. Territories such as, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Guyana, Jamaica, Nevis, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, St. Croix, and Trinidad and Tobago enter every year. Antigua’s representative will be the winner of the Antigua Queen of Carnival Competition.

July 31st: Party Monarch

The most anticipated show of the year featuring all our musical talent. The competition is divided into two segments, Groovy and Up-tempo. Ten competitors per segment compete for the title of Party Monarch.

August 1st: Calypso Monarch

Master Calypso Review Finals.

August 2nd: J’ouvert-Judging of Troupes& Groups

Starting at 4.00am, the streets of St.john’s a.k.a the Streets of Carnival will be filled with young and old “jammin’” with their favorite bands on different routes throughout the town. Lots of partying and drinking and costumes everywhere. Later in the day, there will be a judging of the different troupes based upon the costumes and vibe.

August 3rd: Parade of Troupes & Groups

Parade of Mas Troupes and Announcement of winners.

August 3rd:Last Lap

The Last Lap will start at 6.00pm and symbolizes the last day of the Carnival activities. See you next year!!!

August 8th:Beach Bash

    Im a member of a Calypso group name Creole and we would like to participate in your next carnival…we are from a little island name San Andres belong to Colombia but we speak English and Creole too…Jah bless..
