Literary Antigua

The twin island state consists of sun, sea, sand, friendly people and lots of talent! Every year, new literary talent emerges from all different age groups contributing to our existing and award winning poets, authors and novelists. The Antigua and Barbuda International Literary Festival, usually in November, is an exciting annual cultural event celebrating Literary Antigua.

  • Dr. Althea Prince

    Her awards include The Children’s Book Centre ‘Choice’ Award for How the Star Fish Got to the Sea. She received the Antigua and Barbuda International Writers’ Festival First Annual Award for Literary Excellence.

  • Floree Williams

    A reserved but poignant personality, Williams has created a novel that will appeal to teenagers and young adults with just enough spunk, suspense and romantic indulgence to keep her readers turning pages until the very end.

  • Gilly Gobinet

    Gilly Gobinet won the Gourmand Award for ‘Best Illustrations’ in her ‘Cool Caribbean Cookery Book’ at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

  • Jamaica Kincaid

    Jamaica is a world renowned author, who is considered one of Antigua's biggest achievers in literature.

  • Joanne C. Hillhouse

    Antiguan author, freelance writer, editor, producer and recipient of a UNESCO Honour Award for her contribution to literacy and the literary arts in Antigua and Barbuda.

  • Joy Lawrence

    Joy Lawrence is one of Antigua and Barbuda’s most prolific poets and activists in the literary arts. She is also a dramatist, historian and folklorist of significant renown.
